CREATING A SCENT
|
Generally a fragrance is purchased based on one of two factors:
The image of the scent:
This includes the packaging, the feeling evoked by the fragrance and the overall
message the fragrance conveys.
The actual scent itself:
There are several classifications of scents, each with their own moods,
personalities and formulations. Different individuals will prefer one or more of these classifications,
based on their lifestyle, body chemistry and personality.
WHAT BRINGS A FRAGRANCE TO LIFE?
People often talk about the "mid note", "bottom" or "base note" of a fragrance. Just as music
is composed of notes for the ear, fragrance is composed of notes that become a melody
for the nose. The following notes make up a fragrance:
Top Note:
The top note is the first impression of a fragrance. It's what you smell immediately after
the first contact with the skin. Top notes are light, airy, bright and sparkling to quickly catch your attention.
Mid Note:
Mid Note: The "heart" or "body" of a fragrance gives a fragrance its overall character or signature.
It is the link between the top and bottom notes.
Bottom Note:
This is the final scent to emerge, through what is called "dry down".
This occurs approximately 15 minutes after application. The bottom notes are formed with heavier
ingredients, such as sandalwood and musk.
