Small Toy Pieces
My nine-year-old boy is really into the small Legos that form Star Wars characters. After dumping three packages on the floor and then trying to sort them out, I got an empty egg carton and took it to him. He sorted the pieces according to what they were, colors, etc. and placed each one in a section of the carton. He got along much better with this method. When he was finished, he asked if I'd save more cartons for him. He said that he could put a cotton ball on top of each section and that would keep them from falling out all over the place. It sounds like a plan to me! It made the frustration of not finding the "needle in the haystack" a lot easier.

Reverse Hand-Me-Downs
When I find a great bargain on clothing that is one or more sizes larger than my child currently wears, I buy it for one of the kids who shared his/her clothing with my child. This has two benefits. First, it's kind, generous, and costs very little. Second, if I really like the item of clothing, I'm very likely to see it again on my child when it's handed down!

Your Choice
While packing my daughter's lunchbox for school, I find that if I involve her and give her healthy choices, she eats the whole lunch. Before we started this, she would eat only half of what I had packed and I had to throw the rest of the food away, wasting money. Now, we both are happier.
